Vanuatu Has Activities to Suit Any Travellers

February 8, 2010 by mystory1506

The Republic of Vanuatu is an island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean. The archipelago is located some 1,750 km east of Australia, 500 km north east of New Caledonia, west of Fiji and south of the Solomon Islands. It was named New Hebrides during its colonial period.

Vanuatu is an archipelago of 83 islands with a unique blend of intact tribal communities, resorts, beaches and geography ranging from accessible volcanoes to pristine underwater environments, offering unique and memorable experiences.

Vanuatu is the land of so much to see, so much to do with a reputation for interesting, fun and educational activities to suit any travellers expectations, from treks and abseiling to deserted beach picnics and wreck dive explorations to Cultural villages.

The hospitality and invitation to join and participate in Vanuatus cultural, social and sporting activities is uniquely Vanuatu. From the festivals celebrating tribal customs to the big game fishing challenges and the ocean swims, there are always events on offer for those looking to experience something new.

Many of the islands of Vanuatu have been inhabited for thousands of years, the oldest archaeological evidence found dating to 2000 BC. In 1605, the Portuguese explorer Pedro Fernandez de Quiros became the first European to reach the islands, believing it to be part of Terra Australia. Europeans began settling the islands in the late 18th century, after British explorer James Cook visited the islands on his second voyage, and gave them the name New Hebrides.

In 1887, the islands began to be administered by a French-British naval commission. In 1906, the French and British agreed to an Anglo French Condominium on the New Hebrides.

During World War II, the islands of Efate and Espiritu Santo were used as allied military bases. In the 1960s, the niVanuatu people started to press for self governance and later independence. Full sovereignty was finally granted by both European nations on July 30, 1980. It joined the UN in 1981, and the Non Aligned Movement in 1983.

Some of the best nightspots are the Ni Vanuatu discos scattered about town. If you want to visit one, its best to go with someone who knows the nightclub scene. Club Vanuatu, a private club in Rue de Paris, has plenty to tempt patrons, including bars, snooker, darts, satellite TV and live bands at the weekends. Other popular haunts for a night on the town include the Port Vila Pub, Mamu Bar, Sugglers, Anchor Inn, Breakas Bar and Restaurant, Sunset Bar at the Melanesian and Traders.

Major resort and hotels organise Melanesian style feasts once or twice a week with kastom dancing, kava drinking, local string bands and traditional food, ideal way to try local delicacies such as laplap, and experience the wonderful singing and dancing for which Ni Vanuatu are famous, try at Solos Feast or Mele Botanical Garden at Mele Bay in Port Vila.

China’s Tour Group Troubles

February 4, 2010 by mystory1506

China’s Tour Group Troubles by Tom Carter

“What could possibly compel them to do something so… wrong?”

This was the question posed by a group of expats sitting around a youth hostel in scenic Huangshan Mountain, China’s beloved mountain range in Anhui Province, discussing the legions of tourists who had disrupted their 72-peak excursion.

As the foreign travelers retell it, what was supposed to have been a heavenly respite turned into an out-and-out circus replete with megaphones, flags and the congestion of untold numbers of tourists with the inopportune desire to see the same thing at the same time.

“We could barely walk up the narrow steps because there were too many tour groups, we couldn’t see the view past their florescent hats and we couldn’t even hear the birds because of all the noise,” complained the foreign travelers.

Such a scene is of course commonplace in China, where 1.3 billion people must contend with both limited time and space during the country’s few and far between national holidays.

But where Western travelers, not unlike their world-exploring forefathers, pride themselves on independence, requiring little more than a backpack and a point in the right direction to circumnavigate exotic new countries, the historically communal Chinese tend to have quite a different perspective on travel.

“We like to go where everybody goes,” said one Chinese tourist when prompted to explain the disorder of collective travel. “If there are no crowds it means it’s not a good place to visit.”

An alternative explanation of the chaos that orbits China’s favorite attractions is the government’s authoritative instruction of where and when the populace may travel, preferring brief, intensive bursts during the national holidays rather than a steady flow.

This quarterly policy may make for impressive economic reports (though Xinhua News Agency reports a growing disfavor with the eight-year-old Golden Week holiday system), but it creates a havoc that is all of dissuading foreigners from extensive travel in China.

Indeed, every summer scores of Western backpackers are stranded in Shaanxi’s provincial capital city of Xi’an, home of terracotta warriors, waiting indefinitely for train tickets back to Beijing, often resulting in missed return flights home. The blame for this calamity lies with the tour group companies themselves, who purchase large blocks of tickets (often in advance through personal connection with train station officials), leaving nary a hard seat available for the independent traveler.

And what of the more noticeable effects of those traveling en masse to China’s wonderland attractions. To be sure, Jiuzhaigou National Park in Sichuan is a site not to be missed, where emerald lakes reflecting a vertical alpine forest blazing in the autumn with crimson and gold make this protected region the country’s premier travel destination.

Unfortunately, what visitors will dauntingly meet with at the park’s entrance is a concert of tour buses piercing the surroundings with deafening blasts of their horns and vomiting black exhaust (contributing to Jiuzhaigou’s own environmental downfall), while streams of red and yellow hat-wearing, litter-tossing tourists noisily follow a flag-waving guide shouting instructions into a loudspeaker.

When pressed for an elucidation of the social and ecological consequences of collective traveling, a local tour operator rejoins fiscally, “I provide guaranteed transportation, accommodations and discounted entrance tickets, all in one package. Without tour group companies like mine, traveling in China would be impossible!”

To the foreign observer, such logic is the bane of China’s heritage, with intrusive tour groups appreciating neither the splendor nor history of the site but rather in a seeming rush to take a snapshot in front of a character-engraved stone before dashing back on their buses to the next site.

But for the Chinese, the constipation and the urgency are indicative of a culture categorically limited in both time and space, where itinerary replaces independence and processed convenience is preferred over pleasure.

“The national holidays are my only chance to spend with my family and see my country,” exclaims a Chinese businessman from Beijing on his way to the Yunnan old town of Lijiang, China’s third most popular holiday destination. “With a tour group, I don’t have to plan, I don’t have to worry, I don’t have to think.”

Discover Slovenia: The City Of Ljubljana

February 1, 2010 by mystory1506

A general knowledge to start with – The capital of Slovenia is Ljubljana. Historically, Slovenia is formerly a division of Yugoslavia. Slovenia is placed in the centers of Hungary (on the east), Croatia (on the south), Italy (on the south west) and Austria (on the north). Moreover, Slovenia has a wide and small extended coast in Adriatic where it can be reached by ferry from ports in Trieste, Italy.

Despite the fact that it is a capital city of Slovenia, Ljubljana has a small area of land. Ljubljana has populations of 330,000 whereby 10% of the populations are students. This is the main reason of why Ljubljana has youthful atmospheres. However, Ljubljana is not only declared as the capital and biggest city in Slovenia. This capital city is the only “real city” in Slovenia since its neighbour city, Maribor, in the direction North East, is known as the second city in Slovenia with the populations of 100,000 and plays role as the main core of Slovenia’s cultural activity and business. Still, Maribor does not have the specification of what Ljubljana has.

The river of Ljubljana, which is called as Ljubljanica flows all over through the capital city but it seem likely to be an inland waterway as it flows through the city. There are lots of road bridges and pedestrians on both sides of Ljubljanica but these three bridges, Triple Bridge ( a tri-zig-zagged path bridge), Dragon Bridge (ornamented with well-carved green dragons and it is believed among local folks that these dragons will wag their tail whenever a virgins pass by the bridge), and Shoemakers Bridge (well known of the spot where shoemakers works during the medieval times) are the most remarkable for the ones who are most likely to use these bridges to cross in or out of the city. The river has a color of astonishing turquoise-green which looks really beautiful when the light of the city is bright especially at night. For one who prefers to have romantic atmospheres, they can hire a Venetian looks gondola to cruise around the city.

Moreover, Ljubljana is the type of city where tourists can keep walking without feeling of visiting the attractions of the city. Through the old town, their primary street connects Stari trg and Mestni trg. Trg is known as Square in Slovenian. The Robba Fountain and the Magistrat can be found in Mestni Square as well as the fountain which portrays three Tritons and is sculpted on one of Rome’s where these three tritons stand for the three rivers in Ljubljana.

There are plenty of museums in Ljubljana. The primary museum area is located at the north of Republike Square. Normally, during the first time of visiting this square, tourists usually will think that Republike Square only contains the Culture centre, congress centre and parliament building but the square actually is built as a large carpark area which is surrounded by these buildings. The museum offers the natural history and section covered history, collections of coins, varieties of minerals sample and gems and collections of Rome Empire archaeological finds.

Guide to TV, VCR, and DVD Voltage Converters

January 26, 2010 by mystory1506

When traveling overseas, voltage differences in various countries should be considered if you want to take along your TV, VCR, or DVD player. Luckily, there are products such as TV, VCR, and DVD voltage converters to make traveling with these items easier.

How Voltage Converters Work

Voltage converters, often called voltage transformers, enable you to use 110v TV, VCR, or DVD player with a 220v outlet or vice versa. Step down converters will lower the voltage from 220v to 110v (or other voltage ranges) while step up converters will raise the voltage from 110v to 220v (or other voltage ranges).

When Do You Need a Voltage Converter?

A voltage converter or transformer is needed when traveling to other countries where the standard voltage differs from the standard used in your own country. If your country has a standard of 110 volts and the country you plan to visit has a standard of 220 volts, then you will need an 110v to 120v converter. If the opposite is true, you’ll need a 220v to 110v volts converter. Some countries offer both voltages, in which case you wouldn’t need a voltage converter.

TVs and Voltage Converters

If taking your TV along, keep in mind that monitor formats for displaying television shows are often different in other countries. Televisions create a surge when turned on, so choose a TV voltage converter that is more powerful than the wattage indicated on the back of your TV set.

Though a voltage conversion will allow the television to work power wise, it will not make the format compatible. North American format for TV is called NTSC. Other modes such as PAL mode used in Europe are not compatible with a television designed for NTSC mode. So, a voltage converter plus a multi-system TV might be required.

VCR and DVD Players for Traveling

Traveling with a VCR and DVD player can also be a hassle if you own an older model. The older versions may not work with some formats of televisions overseas, and many models (old or new) will likely need a voltage transformer to operate. Check the format of your player to ensure it matches the format of the available television set. Also, find out the voltage of the country you plan to visit.

Once plugged in, the VCR and DVD player can be used to watch videotapes and DVDs from your country, but maybe not those from another country. Just like with TVs, there are various formats being used around the world for videotapes and DVDs such as NTSC and PAL.

Newer models of VCRs and DVDs called multi-system, code free, or region free will enable you to watch films from your country or from the country you are visiting. Also, some newer machines will convert the voltage automatically, so there’s no need for a voltage converter with these.

Voltage Regulators

Voltage regulators act as both a voltage converter and a voltage stabilizer. There are two types of regulators – Servo and Relay. A Servo type regulator stabilizes voltage by adjusting the converter or transformer to the desired output voltage. It gives the most precise voltage and is great for areas with unstable voltage currency. The Relay type regulator works electronically and is not as precise as the Servo type.

Before you go, find out what type of format and voltage converter you will need for your TV, VCR, or DVD player. If staying at a hotel, phone or email a hotel clerk to gather the information you need. Then, go online to shop for plug end adapters, voltage converters, or even a new multi-system or code free TV, VCR or DVD player for your enjoyment!

Travel, Vacation At Wholesale Pricing Part 1of 5

January 24, 2010 by mystory1506

Have you ever dreamed about a life of travel and luxurious vacations, like the Orient, Tahiti, Caribbean or just some relaxing resort? If you have those kind of dreams, then this may be a way to make them come true. In the following articles, I am going to let you in on one of the travel industry’s secrets.

Even if you are already in the travel business, I will show you how you can set yourself free from those office chains, and double or triple your current income, and start traveling.

You are in full control with this system. You get to make all the decisions. You get to go where you want to go, and you get to go when you want to go! And you will get to do what you want to do when you get there! Better yet, you will get to share all of this with people that will become life long friends.

Let me take care of a few questions right off the bat. This is not about being a traditional travel agent. Fact is that most travel agents cannot afford to do much traveling, and many simply cannot afford to take time off or time away from their jobs or businesses. If you are in that same spot, I am going to show you how to change all that and start making more money and having more fun than you can possibly imagine.

This also isn’t about being a tour guide. I will introduce you to a travel and business model that will have you wondering why it hasn’t happened to you sooner.

You can do this part time or full time. It doesn’t matter. Some folks do this just to get a couple of vacations per year. Others do it as a full time business, and some even make amazing six figure incomes. There are people who have taken this business model to the extreme and now have a travel business that is worth millions of dollars.

It doesn’t matter if you have any experience or not. You do not need any prior travel or internet experience. If you dream about or love to take vacations and travel, and are willing to share that love with other people, then you are qualified to do this.

This is about owning your own Internet Travel Store. That’s right! Just like Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity. But for a lot–lot less! Billions and Millions less! With a Ton of Benefits. Like company paid health insurance!

The following is what I discovered and gives the reasons why this will work and is working right now for many travelers like you and me.

Expedia was sold a couple of years ago for $5.1 billion dollars. That’s Billion not million.

Somebody must believe that people will buy their travel on the internet.
